Influence of back extensor strength on the natural history of kyphosis

چکیده
Introduction Previous cross-sectional study demonstrated that spinal kyphosis was signiflcantly associated with back extensor strength. However, the influence of trunk muscle on the development of kyphosis is still unclear due to the paucity of longitudinal study. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the association of back extensor strength and progression of kyphosis with longitudinal follow up.

The effect of spinal orthosis on trunk muscle force control in hyperkyphotic elderly
Background: The back extensor muscles are the main spinal supportive factors which function establishes spinal stability and erect posture of the spine. Spine deviation from the ideal alignment, like abnormal increase in the forward curvature of the thoracic spine may cause changes in the trunk muscle activity which can lead to a change in the spinal proprioception. It seems that the corrected ...

STUDY DESIGN Cross-sectional. OBJECTIVES To determine if thoracic kyphosis was different in older women grouped based on their bone mineral density (BMD) and back extensor strength (BES), and to determine if an association between and these variables exist. SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA Changes in kyphosis might be related to back extensor weakness in patients with osteoporosis. Disproportiona...

Lumbar kyphosis and the decreased mobility of the lumbar spine increase the risk of falls and impair both the quality of life and the ability to perform activities of daily living. However, in the elderly Japanese population, little is known about the age-related changes and sex-related differences in muscle strength, including of the upper and lower extremities and back extensors. An adequate ...

To the Editor: Thanks to the JAOA for the concise January 2000 supplement on osteoporosis. One small addition that would be especially relevant to osteopathic practice is specific inclusion of upper back extension exercises in the management of osteoporosis. Loss of height, the most clinically available indicator of osteoporotic vertebral wedging and compression fractures, is preceded by loss o...
